How can you help set the direction for your team and then get the members' "buy in" for attainment of results? This session will help you set departmental goals and cascade them down through the team by helping each member set individual goals.

Coaching and Feedback Essentials

You might have had a coach as a child who helped you learn a new sport or skill. Some were "okay" and others were "great"--people you still think about as you go through life. These people took the time to determine what motivated you, showed you how to do it and then stood back as you tried it yourself. If you failed, they stood by you and showed you again, all along saying, "You can do it. Let's try again." In this course, you will discover your role as a coach and the many opportunities for helping people learn new tasks, systems, skills, rules and more.
    Learners will
  • Define "coaching" and discuss the benefits
  • Identify ways to inspire, encourage and challenge their teams
  • Learn to use a coaching conversation template
  • Practice coaching

Dealing with the Difficult Employee

Leadership skills are stretched when dealing with a difficult employee. Do I coach or do I discipline? How do I turn them around and get them to play nice? In this class, you will explore the many behaviors commonly defined as "difficult" and discover paths to dealing with them.
    Learners will
  • Explore behaviors we define as "difficult" and the causes of those behaviors
  • Examine ways to lead through those behaviors
  • Understand how these behaviors tie to performance management
