Customer Profile Intermec Inc. develops, manufactures and integrates technologies that identify, track and manage supply chain assets. Core technologies include radio frequency identification, mobile computing and data collection systems, bar code printers and label media. Intermec's products and services are used by customers in many industries worldwide to improve the productivity, quality and responsiveness of business operations. Challenge: Recently, Intermec Inc. reevaluated its sales force training program to become more efficient and cost effective. With a worldwide workforce and a highly technical product, Intermec knew its training needs were beyond the realistic scope of its training department. Strategy: Intermec chose Phasient Learning Technologies as its new training partner to develop their highly technical sales force training program. Process: Intermec initially attended an eLearning seminar hosted by Phasient. Following the eLearning seminar, Phasient met with Intermec's training department to learn about their products and determine their needs. Phasient's development team then scheduled a formal kickoff meeting. At the meeting, Phasient's team developed a project time line, learned about Intermec's previous training program, and explained Phasient's development process. Immediately after the kickoff, the Phasient team went to work writing the script and laying out the course design. For Intermec, the Phasient difference is in the process. Results: After a final review and minor changes, Intermec's first course was ready for its debut. "We were very pleased with the professional look of the courseware and the flexibility for the user," said Gascho. Intermec used the new online courseware with its sales force located at various locations. In the end, Intermec was able to cut travel costs and decrease the time necessary to complete worldwide training, attaining their goals of cost effectiveness and efficiency.
